yesterday i managed to avoid looking and feeling like a drowning rat by donning a sweatshirt. today even my inside shirt (not the sweatshirt) was soaked through and clinging to my skin. i was hardly more wet during this evening's scuba lesson. i cut my run in half this morning due to the rain and that i could ever so slightly feel where my roommate rubbed some knots out of my shins last night (bless her. she enjoyed the pain it caused me. though winced a few times with me. ahhh, some compassion). anywho, it was wet this morning but at least it was prior to the snow. true, i would have been less wet but i'm just annoyed as all get-up that it's snowing in the valley. can't it stay in the mtns? i don't mind skiing in the stuff, it's running in it that i' sick of. anywho, ran inside for my second run. i could tell myself it was to ensure a good workout despite the weather or that in case my shin started acting weird i could stop whenever i needed, but really, i was just too tired (menatlly) to deal with the snow. good run. 6.5 at 6 min pace. meant to run 6.25 but i didn't check the time until i'd already run 6.5. i thought i had at least a mile left and actually checked it earlier that i was planning because it was driving me crazy and i was starting to get tired and worried that it would take more effort than i'd been planning on just to finish but i was done. shoot, though, i was gonna push the last bit harder. but i stopped. wussy me again. i have this former student who i sometimes see in the gym. one of my fav. students ever. love the kid. anywho, a year or more back we decided we needed to race 3 miles...loser had to do something awful and embarrassing. i forget all the details but i didn't want to lose. there is a chance of it, he's a decent runner for a guy who doesn't run much. he's got good form. anywho, (wonder how may times i've written that one today), i saw him at the gym and chatted a moment before hitting the treadmill. he came up to me about half way through or so and peaked under the magazine covering my time/distance to check my pace. told him to run a 10k at that pace. he laughed at me and said 5k. i'm impressed. he not only did it but sped up to 5:13 and 5 flat for the last bit. good ol' david. i still finished first. |
